Great House

I really struggled with this one and almost gave up. Yes, the writing was beautiful and meditative in places and some of its ideas associated with it, such as the Great House of the title linked to Jewish tradition, resonated.

However, I do not do well with this kind of stream-of-consciousness writing and I found myself feeling disengaged from the characters and somewhat lost as to what was going on (if anything). It's the kind of novel that well deserves the description of 'challenging', which can so easily mean inaccessible. That's how I found it.

In addition, because my eyesight is not the best I found the layout and font used in my edition very hard to cope with even with my reading glasses.
