Just finished 'Grace Williams says it loud'. What a fabulously enjoyable novel. An emotional roller-coaster, a real page turner and a deeply satisfying read. I loved the language, its playful exuberance and repetition, rhymes and rhythms, which gave Grace, the girl without words, a voice steeped in the joy of the sounds that language makes. It reminds me of 'The curious case of the dog in the night-time'. Unsentimental and sharp and extremely funny. Brilliant!

  1. Reading a group of books like this brings up all kinds of patterns and connections. Grace Williams and Annabel are both about children/young people with a complex, secret inner life that hardly anyone knows about or even imagines. It's very attractive to a reader to be in on their secrets.
